Federal Beige Book September 9, 2009

The Federal Beige books provide those indicators that allow interested parties to review and compare the economic conditions of twelve Districts, which includes Cleveland, Ohio as the 4th District. Each District breaks down a summary of areas that they monitor. For the 4th district those categories are Manufacturing, Real Estate, Consumer Spending, Banking, Energy and Transportation.

I have included the site for you to review September 9ths publication and the past months of 2009 releases. From this site you can also review the past publications as far back as 1996. If you would like to review as far back as 1970 you will be able to review the information at the Beige Book Archives of Minneapolis.

These books are tools that I have been using during my research and case studies. I hope you’re able to find them useful as I have.

Summary of Commentary on Current Economic Conditions by Federal Reserve District

Commonly known as the Beige Book, this report is published eight times per year. Each Federal Reserve Bank gathers anecdotal information on current economic conditions in its District through reports from Bank and Branch directors and interviews with key business contacts, economists, market experts, and other sources. The Beige Book summarizes this information by District and sector. An overall summary of the twelve district reports is prepared by a designated Federal Reserve Bank on a rotating basis.
